Ken and life at Saint Leonard, Shoreditch

Created by Christine 2 years ago

There is so much to say about Ken Bromley where do we start!

As long as we’ve been worshipping at Shoreditch (which is our whole life!) Ken’s warm, lovely, peaceful yet powerful energy has always been there! Ken was a faithful member of the Shoreditch church community since 1980a. Ken always happily contributed to the life of the church such as serving as a Churchwarden for many years, he was very supportive when we closed the church down in 2000 to rebuild it, leading the Hackney winter night shelter planning for our parish, greeting the congregation as part of the welcome team, serving the teas and coffees after the service and doing the washing up - the list goes on! Ken was always willing to help and took joy in caring for others and the church.

One of our funniest memories of Ken was at the PCC meetings. During a lengthy conversation about hall lettings or preparing for upcoming services, you were bound to look around and catch Ken nodding off! But somehow he always managed to wake up just in time to vote or just before the closing prayer!

Ken’s positive nature and wonderful sense of humour were inspiring. At a time when I was updating the church notice boards and Id emailed everyone on the Church council to send me a photo, I received Kens fastest ever email response saying: “You can take my photo as long as you make me look at bit like the Brad Pitt.!” Ken was always making us laugh!

I know your last few years were difficult and you weren’t able to visit St. Leonards for a while before you passed so Ken we’ve got a photo of the church for you to keep. We love so much and may you rest in perfect peace.

Love Elaine & Christine and everyone at St.Leonard’s, Shoreditch.
